Regeneration in Spring

The four seasons are like life itself. There is a saying: “Make your whole year’s plan in the spring and the whole day’s plan in the morning.” Spring, therefore, is a time for “development.” In nature, and the whole universe, this is a time of growth. In the realm of human nature, we also focus on our development. We can take advantage of this season to develop all aspects of our being to fulfill our aspirations.
Another saying goes: “Do not engage in life-destroying activities at the beginning of the year.” This means, that in spring, we should not have destructive thoughts, nor perform destructive deeds. Rather, we should set out to have constructive thoughts and perform constructive deeds. We should regenerate ourselves and work on our continuous positive growth.
In spring, especially, we should cultivate the quality of benevolence and compassion. Doctors, for instance, are healers, and the purpose of healing is to restore healthy life. Working continuously on our growth and regeneration is therefore the best way to stay healthy in spring.
In fact, not just doctors, but everyone should cultivate benevolence and compassion. Why? Because if we are benevolent from the core of our being, it will lead to development of all positive aspects of our personality, and our heart will be in the right place. This “uprightness,” developed through benevolence, is very important, as it will not only attract good fortune and ward off evil, but, at the same time, continuously improve our luck throughout the year.
So the start of the year is very important. If we do not grasp this opportunity, then the rest of the year will just not feel right. Yet another saying goes: “Each link should be interlocked, so that one will not lose ground.” This means that if a person is not careful with everything that they do, and is in a state of negligence, then they will easily be knocked down and defeated. But, if we are vigilant every step of the way, then our path will be smooth.
This is the principle of “interlocking every link so that there will be continuous regeneration.”
