An All Encompassing Love

An All Encompassing Love

Someone asked, what is love? Love is not merely the affection between people, but expresses itself also as compassion, kindness, and moral consciousness. What kind of person is considered loving? First, they must be grounded and centered in their being; second, patient; third, sincere. Only if a person possesses all these traits can they be considered truly loving. But if a person is judgmental about others, and biased in their general outlook, then they are not truly loving. Rather, they are stubborn and intolerant.

Once I wrote a song about love. “Love thy neighbor as yourself, hatred cannot end hatred. When we are apart, days seem like years. Love all creation; heaven and earth are one. God is in our hearts, God loves us, love wipes out all wrongs. God loves everyone in this world; we should have compassion for all living creatures. The power of love penetrates my heart; living by the moral precepts make me perfect. It makes one joyful and God comes to visit; the symbol of God washes away the unclean. Be passionate, be passionate, be passionate! Be passionate about what? Be passionate about the whole universe!”

Love between one person and another expresses itself as a tacit understanding. Without this tacit understanding, there can be no genuine affection. When apart, the lovers lead independent lives; when together, they cherish each other. However, if there are feelings of resentment when apart, and dissatisfaction when together, then there will be endless bickering. But if one can hush up, then there is no way for the other to return angry words. If one can keep one’s equanimity, then one has already scored an immediate victory.

“Love expresses itself as a tacit understanding; being independent while apart and cherishing each other while together. ” — Lee Feng San Shifu
